Sources: New Apple promos not indicative of Pro delays

Apple's latest 'Brilliant savings' promotion should not be taken as an indication that new Power Mac and display models will be delayed until Apple's World Wide Developers Conferences (WWDC), sources close to the company said.

Both the Brilliant savings and Power Mac RAM promotions are now scheduled to end on June 26th, two days before the WWDC. According to sources, this date is synonymous with the end of Apple's third fiscal quarter, and should not be indicative of product revisions 48-hours later.

To further bolster these claims, sources point to the fine-print revealed in Apple's 'Brilliant savings' promotion, which offers a $500 rebate when a 23-inch Cinema display is purchased alongside a Power Mac G5. According to the offer, qualifying products include "all Apple Power Mac G5 computers; Apple display: M8537ZM/A 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display."

Meanwhile, the company's "More memory for less" promo is specific to models utilizing "only DDR333 or DDR400 RAM modules."

If Apple indeed releases a new aluminum-wrapped 23-inch HD Cinema display, it will most definitely be identified by a new model number, sources said, and hence will not apply to the current promotion. Additionally, sources noted the possibility that 2nd generation Power Mac G5 models may sport updated, and possibly ECC RAM, which would disqualify them from the extended RAM promotion.

"The current Brilliant savings G5 and 23 inch HD Display clearance promo is intended to get rid of the current model 23 inch Cinema HD Displays for $500 off, regardless of new product introductions," sources said. "Upon release of new displays, the current 23-inch cinema display may see a further independent price cut, and will be a steal as part of the promo for both current and second revision Power Mac G5 buyers."
