Sony, Samsung laptops to be manufactured at iBook plant

Asustek Computer has decided to shift its OEM notebook manufacturing business to its 100%-owned subsidiary, Asusalpha Computer, in order to focus its efforts on promoting sales of its own-brand notebooks, DigiTimes is reporting. Asusalpha, which has a production capacity of 200,000 notebooks a month, currently churns out iBook notebooks for Apple. As part of the reorganization, Asustek will also shift notebook orders from Sony and Samsung to the Asusalpha facility. The manufacturing plant is expected to increase O.E.M. laptop shipments by some 300,000 units this year.
