Apple on Monday released version 1.1 of Apple Configurator, bringing improved installation of apps purchased through the Volume Purchase Program and new preferences to help with managing a multitude of iOS devices.Along with the usual stability improvements, the newly-updated device management tool includes the following new features:
- Improved reliability and ease of use when installing paid apps with Volume Purchase Program redemption codes
- A new preference to disable the automatic removal of apps or profiles installed by the user when a configuration is reapplied to a supervised device
- A new preference to disable reapplying a configuration each time a supervised device is connected to Apple Configurator
- The profile editor now indicates when a profile cannot be installed on a supervised device due to a missing value in a required field

First released in March, Apple Configurator is a Mac app built to manage multiple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices in large deployments like businesses and schools. The free utility can manage up to 30 iOS products and allows for central setup of new devices, installation of custom apps, iOS software updates, backups and restoration of app data and settings. The app was updated a month later with minor bug fixes and improvements.
Apple Configurator version 1.1 weighs in at 16.8 MB and can be downloaded through the Mac App Store.
