Apple highlights self-published iBooks titles as 'Breakout Books'
Apple has begun promoting self-published titles on the iBookstore under the banner of "Breakout Books."The new section on the iTunes Store is advertised by Apple as a "hand-picked collection of books from emerging talents." The company has promised to add new titles regularly.
"All are independently published and have earned high ratings from customers like you," the page reads.
Titles are available in the categories "Romance," "Sci-Fi & Fantasy," "Mysteries & Thrillers," and "More to Explore." Each can be sorted by the best selling titles or release date.
On Topic: iTunes

- Gameloft's Gangstar Rio, N.O.V.A. 3 go free on iOS for a limited time
- Apple releases iTunes 11.0.3 with new MiniPlayer, improved Songs View
- Google's All Access music streaming service to take on Spotify, Pandora
- Netflix accounts for 1/3 of nightly home Internet traffic, Apple's iTunes takes 2%

The other genres are cut off entirely.

So that "Someone To Love" there, that's... one of those... Well, anyway.
Great to see that there are a sizable number of books created and published directly in iBooks. Apple really needs to keep the pressure on in adding features to iBooks Author. Automation of a lot of the processes already there would be a great start. Make indexing a term as easy as going through Faces in iPhoto, for one.
