Logitech debuts new keyboard cases for Apple's 10.2-inch iPad

Logitech Rugged Combo 3 for 10.2-inch iPad.

Following Apple's unveiling of the new 10.2-inch iPad, accessory maker Logitech on Tuesday announced a trio of new keyboard cases to fit the tablet, including an updated Rugged Combo 3 model designed for classroom use.

The Rugged Combo 3 builds on Logitech's established iPad protection with up-to-date technology like Smart Connector compatibility, a new feature for the seventh-generation iPad. Like past Rugged Combo series, the new version boasts resistance to drops, prying and liquid, perfect for classroom applications.

As with other Logitech keyboard cases, Rugged Combo 3 integrates a full row of iOS shortcut keys arranged at the top of the keyboard above the number row. Multiple usage modes promote comfortable typing, drawing, reading and movie viewing, while a built-in kickstand provides additional stability.

An integrated stylus holder fits an Apple Pencil or Logitech Crayon.

The case is designed with pass through openings for iPad's Lightning connector, headphone jack and cameras, and can fit into charging carts used by schools to juice up their equipment.

Rugged Combo 3 will be available for purchase in October from Apple's Education store for $99.

For general consumers, Logitech rolled out two keyboard case options for the seventh-generation iPad in the Rugged Folio and Slim Folio.

The Rugged Folio features "military-grade" drop protection and a keyboard fabric designed to keep out dust and liquid. Like the Rugged Combo 3, users can adjust the case and build-in kickstand for optimal typing, viewing, sketching and reading angles. Smart Connector support ensures a hassle-free typing experience.

Slim Folio is marketed as an accessory that turns iPad into a laptop "in one click." Similar to Apple's own iPad Pro cases, Slim Folio snaps into place with the help of magnets, ensuring a solid base on which to type. The keyboard can be folded under the tablet for reading and drawing, while a holder supports either Apple Pencil or Logitech Crayon. A replaceable coin cell battery powers the device's Bluetooth connection.

Logitech's Rugged Folio goes on sale in October for $139.99, while the Slim Folio is expected to hit store shelves in November for $99.99.
