Apple releases second betas for macOS 10.15.4, iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, tvOS 13.4, watchOS 6.2 [u]

Apple has pushed out a fresh round of developer betas to those enrolled in the company's testing program, with new second betas of iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, tvOS 13.4, watchOS 6.2, and macOS 10.15.4 now available to download.

The new beta builds can be picked up by developers taking part in the test program as an over-the-air update on devices that have been used for previous betas, or via the Apple Developer Center. Public beta versions of each beta operating system release typically arrive shortly after the developer betas, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The first generation of betas for the current cycle were issued on February 5.

The first iOS and iPadOS 13.4 betas include quite a few changes, including the return of iCloud folder sharing, which was originally promised for iOS 13 but was removed before its release. Another big change is the ability for developers to offer a single app purchase that works across not only iPhone and iPad, but also Mac and Apple TV, saving customers from buying the same app multiple times.

With its second beta of macOS 10.15.4, Apple adds time-synced lyrics in Apple Music, providing the popular feature to Mac users for the first time.

An unexpected addition were references to a new CarKey API, which appears to suggest an iPhone or Apple Watch could be used to lock, unlock, and start a car in the future.

Nine new Memoji stickers, a rearranged Mail toolbar, new keyboard shortcuts on iPad within the Photos app, tweaks to the TV app for Family Sharing, new CarPlay controls, and an update to the location access authorization prompt were also spotted in iOS.

In tvOS 13.4, there were references to new Apple TV 4K hardware, including a new model number.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly suggest users avoid installing betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, due to the potential for data loss or other issues. It is instead recommended to install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to ensure there are sufficient backups of important data beforehand.
