Last-minute iPhone 13 analyst predictions include ProMotion, 1TB option

Apple will introduce ProMotion displays and a 1TB storage option to the iPhone 13 Pro, according to TrendForce's last-minute predictions for Apple's imminent smartphone refresh.

Apple is just over an hour away from potentially launching its iPhone 13 lineup at its "California Streaming" event, but there's still time for predictions to be made. In one such release by analysts at TrendForce, it seems there will be quite a few updates to the lineup, changes that have surfaced in many previous rumors.

The usual expectation of an A15 chip upgrade is anticipated by the firm, one that will use TSMC's 5nm+ process. All models are also expected to use flexible AMOLED+On-cell designs for their displays.

The quartet will also have Sensor Shift image stabilization, a system introduced in the iPhone 12 Pro Max where optical image stabilization is performed by shifting the sensor, rather than the lens.

For the Pro models specifically, it is anticipated there will be ProMotion 120Hz on the displays along with LPTO, for reduced power consumption. The Pro models will also boast a 1TB storage capacity option, and the ultra-wide camera will be upgraded to a 6P lens with added autofocus.

LiDAR, a feature that the 2020 Pro models used, will also return for 2021.

The split of sales is expected to be weighted away from the iPhone 13 mini. Following the early EOL of the iPhone 12 mini, TrendForce reckons the iPhone 13 mini will account for less than 10% of total iPhone 13 production.

In terms of overall production, TrendForce believes Apple's supply chain surrounding the iPhones won't be too affected by component restraints. Total iPhone production for 2021 is anticipated to rise 15.6% year-on-year, with iPhone 13 models expected to account for between 37% and 39% of the total.

The iPhone is anticipated to account for roughly 77% of total annual production of 5G smartphones for 2021, making Apple the market leader and representing an increase from a 39% share in 2020.
