AppleShare IP 6.3 Development Begins

AppleShare IP is Apple's complete suite of LAN and Internet services, including File, Web, Mail and Print services. Even though the Server suite is not expected to go Carbon for Mac OS X Server, work on the Macintosh "Classic" version is moving forward with a full head of steam.

Rumor has it that just weeks after Apple announced the somewhat major release, AppleShare IP 6.2, the AppleShare IP development team has put together its first complete build of AppleShare IP 6.3, which may or may not be available as a free upgrade to users.

The new version is rumored to include a new integrated administration system that will remove the Open Doc dependencies apparent in previous AppleShare IP administration applications, among other things.

According to sources on the development team, the release is not expected to hit the streets until sometime later this fall. In other news, Apple is hard at work on the next version of AppleWorks which is being targeted for the release of the next-generation iMac later this year. Expect updates on both these Apple solutions sometime in the near future.
