Apple Planning Corporate Rebranding

With Apple's major media event now just a day away, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the announcements. It's positively confirmed that Apple will roll out its new line of iMac personal computers, code-named Kihei, as well as take the wraps off Mac OS 9.0, code-named Sonata. Rumors also suggest that Apple may reveal its handheld and Internet strategies, or Apple Boutique Retail Chain.

However, the most persistent rumor is that Apple is planning a major corporate rebranding or change of corporate ID. Though this could mean any of many things, sources are suggesting this major change has to do with the "Think Different" slogan and ad campaign.

The "Think Different" brand was launched on September 26th, 1997 and has proven to be a success for both Apple and its customers. Nevertheless, the campaign is now over two years old and sources are placing their bets on a major change due sometime this fall, if not at Apple's media event on October 5th.

"Apple's a different company than it was 2 years ago," one source said. "Sure, they have the same goals and aspirations, but there has been a major rebranding in the works for some time now."

Apparently, Apple has been working closely with its advertising agency, Chiat-Day, on this move for some time now. This suggests that Apple may be thinking of delivering a different kind of message to consumers beginning with their new line of iMac personal computers this holiday shopping season.

In other related news, we've received some confirmation that this Apple Media Event was recently bumped up from a later date in order to divert some of the, shall we say, "bad press" away from Apple. By this we mean lower than expected profit earnings, iBook and Power Macintosh G4 delays, etc. We think it will serve its purpose :)
