Minuet (Mac OS 9.0.1) Turns Beta!

Minuet, a release consisting of less than 50 components, turned beta on December 1st. The release did in fact skip over the alpha sequence (from delta to beta). This is possible because the software update is not very complex.

Beta 2 was frozen on December 1st, and Beta 3 should be hitting Apple's private servers by the time you read this article. Beta 3 will be the last beta of Minuet before the release moves into its first Golden Master Candidate stage either next Tuesday or Wednesday, sources said.

Minuet is essential for all three of the major hardware product announcements to be made at Macworld San Francisco and will go GM for all three of these projects by the 20th of December, sources added. The three major product announcements include a set of new PowerBook G3s, code named Pismo, a new 17" iMac, code named "P7A," and a third product we will talk about early next week.

As it stands, Minuet will only be made available through Apple's Automatic Update Servers via Software Updater in Mac OS 9.0. On the other hand, the release is not expected to hit these servers until sometime in February of next year.

As always, we will keep you posted of any further developments.
