Briefly mentioned during Thursday's GoPro launch event, the new Hero 6 Black with GP1 chip compresses ultra high-resolution video into manageable chunks of data using High Efficiency Video Coding, the same standard adopted by Apple in its latest operating systems.
GoPro released its latest action camera product, the Hero 6 Black, on Thursday with a number of incremental upgrades over the year-old Hero 5 Black, most of which are powered by the firm's first in-house designed GP1 chip. AppleInsider was at the launch event in San Francisco to go hands-on with the device.
GoPro on Wednesday took the wraps off of its fall 2017 lineup headlined by the new Fusion camera, capturing footage in 360 degrees and using an iPhone's gyroscopes to edit the scene, as well as a new Hero 6 Black capable of capturing 4K video at 60 frames per second.
