Apple issues Aperture, Logic Express updates

Apple on Thursday released software updates for its Aperture photography and Logic Express audio creation applications.

The company said a 13.6MB Aperture 1.1.1 Update addresses several issues related to performance, stability, color correction, and display compatibility.

Meanwhile, Logic Pro 7.2.1 (30MB) is a maintenance release that addresses isolated reliability and compatibility issues. For Intel Macs, the update improves ReWire and ReCycle support, Standard MIDI file export, OMF import, VSL EXS instrument compatibility.

The Logic Pro update also improves: compatibility with Logic 7.1 songs, direct playback of MP3 files and EuCon support for the Euphonix MC and CM408T control surfaces.

Furthermore, Apple said Logic Pro 7.2.1 fixes problems that could cause a blank Sample Editor window or unexpected halt of software instrument output.

Apple responds to rumors of Aperture's demise, releases update

Apple on Thursday responded to rumors that the company has asked the engineering team for its professional photography workflow application Aperture to leave. The rumors, which started late last week, are completely false, according to Apple.

?The reports of Apple reducing their commitment to Aperture are totally false,? Kirk Paulsen, Apple?s Senior Director Pro Applications Marketing, told Macworld. ?In fact, we?ve got more people working on Aperture right now than ever before.

In addition to the recently released Aperture 1.1 update, Apple today released another smaller update fixing minor issues in the application ? a move Apple said shows their continued support for the application. Paulsen said this is a direct result of working with customers to make sure Aperture is the best application Apple can provide.

Several issues have been addressed with Aperture 1.1.1 including fixing a white balance bug and a problem where Aperture would erroneously warn of incompatible display hardware. iPhoto users can now also choose individual images when importing into Aperture, instead of choosing albums.

Paulsen characterized the interest in Aperture at the National Association of Broadcasters tradeshow last week in Las Vegas as ?tremendous? as Apple showed off its entire pro-level product line.

"As far as we?re concerned Aperture is the number one application in the category and we intend to do everything possible to keep it that way,? said Paulsen.
