Apple offering paid time off for employees getting COVID-19 vaccine

Apple employees will start returning to campuses as soon as June

As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, Apple is incentivizing employees with paid time off for appointments or side effect relief.

After the pandemic began in earnest in March 2020, Apple took several steps to remove employees from offices and keep customers safe. Now, as employees return to work as usual, Apple will encourage its employees to become vaccinated.

Workers can ask for paid time off for vaccination appointments. Any employee suffering from adverse side effects like pain or sickness can ask for paid sick leave.

According to Bloomberg, Apple will not be providing shots to employees nor does it have access to vaccines. Apple continues to provide on-site testing for employees who have COVID-19 symptoms, however.

Apple has reopened all of its US-based Apple Stores and will soon repopulate its corporate offices. CEO Tim Cook had mentioned that employees will be returning to offices as early as June, but remote work is still on the table.

Doesn’t surprise Apple is doing this. It’s the difference between companies who squeeze everything from its employees (proceeds going to the CEO) to one who cares about its workforce.

I’m sure I’ll hear about employees who disagree but nowhere near the number of disgruntled Amazon or Walmart employees.

This is not an Apple thing. Many companies are doing this. Work comp carriers do not want the exposure. Many companies are offering incentives to their employees to get vaccinated sooner than later.

This is great!

But I'm thinking that, at least for the second shot, that they should also give the following day as paid time off as well: I know for myself I was not up to par for the 2 days following my second shot: I was tired, weak and had little stamina or energy (I could go for about half an hour before having to sit down or lie down to rest). This is not rare and probably even more common in the younger people Apple tends to hire.
