Instagram is down, Facebook is working on it [u]

Instagram

Users worldwide are reporting that photo-sharing service Instagram is currently unavailable. Although widespread geographically, it's not clear how many users are affected.

First reports of issues with Instagram began around 6:40 a.m. Eastern, and have continued to rise since. It's not know what has caused the issue, but a Facebook spokesperson has said the company is aware of the problem.

"We're aware that some people are having trouble accessing their Instagram," said the company in a statement to iMore. "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience."

According to DownDetector, Instagram experienced a similar outage on September 1, 2021, but they were more quickly resolved. So were ones on August 26, and separately on August 27.

There's no discernible pattern to the outage, with many users continuing to access Instagram via the iOS app, and through its website on macOS.

Update: The issue has been resolved.
