New DJI RS 3 Mini supports vertical videos & mirrorless cameras

DJI RS 3 Mini

The new DJI RS 3 Mini travel stabilizer weighs less than 1.8 pounds and was designed to work with mirrorless cameras and lenses.

It can carry up to 4.4 pounds and features Bluetooth shutter control, an updated stabilization algorithm, native horizontal and vertical switching, and a 1.4-inch color touchscreen.

At 1.7 pounds, the DJI RS 3 Mini is approximately 50% lighter than the RS 3 Pro and 40% lighter than the RS 3. As a result, it's an excellent option for traveling for photographers in the field.

The RS 3 Mini supports various mirrorless cameras such as the Sony A7S3 with a 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens, Canon EOS R5 with an RF24- 70mm F2.8 STM lens, or Fuji X-H2S with an XF 18-55 mm F2.8-4 lens. DJI maintains a complete compatibility list on its website.

Vertical video

With a dual-layered quick-release plate, the RS 3 Mini supports vertical videos for social media. Photographers can attach the quick-release plate to the vertical arm to start filming without needing additional accessories.

The stabilizer doesn't limit the gimbal rotation angle for vertical shooting and has a motor to ensure footage remains stable even when the zoom reaches the maximum focal length. RS 3 Mini also features an upper plate with a new curved placement guide, which prevents the camera from rotating and loosening.

DJI added its third-generation stabilization algorithm — found in the RS 3 Pro — to the RS 3 Mini for optimal performance. As a result, RS 3 Mini can follow people steadily and switch between high and low angles for a more diverse range of shots.

Control with Bluetooth

The RS 3 Mini has a Wireless Bluetooth Shutter function that can link with most mirrorless cameras. After the initial linking, the camera will be ready automatically for action as soon as it is turned on.

Users can directly control the video recording and photo capture functions via the record button on the gimbal.

And when photographers use a Sony camera with a supported digital lens, they can directly control the lens's optical or digital zoom via the front dial, eliminating the need for a camera control cable.

Other features

With a NATO port on the side of the gimbal, the RS 3 Mini can connect to various accessories such as DJI's Briefcase Handle, external fill lights, or microphones.

The integrated battery handle of the RS 3 Mini provides up to 10 hours of charge, meeting the needs of a day's shoot. It supports charging during use and can fully charge in 2.5 hours.
