Three years after withdrawing from Apple News, the "New York Times" media empire is adding "The Athletic" and "Wirecutter" to Apple's news curation service.
The Athletic on Apple News+
is a sports title that has often covered how Apple TV+ is working to increase its live sporting coverage, and according to Apple's Eddy Cue, it's also a great favorite title.
"Like so many lifelong sports fans, I am a devoted reader of The Athletic and their fantastic sports reporting and local coverage," said Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services, in a statement. "We're so proud to now bring sports fans The Athletic in Apple News+ -- which millions of News+ subscribers are going to love."
"The Athletic is home to award-winning, deeply reported coverage of teams, leagues, and players for devoted fans around the world," said David Perpich, publisher of the magazine. "We provide subscribers with every sports story that matters, brought to life by the most talented newsroom in the business."
"|We're thrilled to work with Apple News to introduce even more readers to the best-in-class journalism that only The Athletic can produce," he continued.
Apple says that The Athletic covers "hundreds of processional and college teams across the major sports leagues globally." It is available via the Sports tab in Apple News+, for readers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
Apple has also announced that The Wirecutter product review publication will be joining Apple News+ from early 2024.
Significantly, both The Wirecutter and The Athletic are part of the New York Times -- which pulled out of Apple News+ in 2020.
