Gmail gets share sheet functions, Foursquare saves favorite places, Imgur overhauls design

Several important updates have been released at the iOS App Store, bringing share sheet functions to Gmail, a Saved Places tab to Foursquare, and a complete redesign of Imgur's official iPhone app.

Gmail gets share sheet functions

Gmail

, now in version 4.0, makes use of iOS 8's share sheet to enable attaching documents from third-party apps to an email. By extension, people receiving an attachment via Gmail can open it directly with a compatible app.

Another iOS 8-based improvement lets users archive a message or reply to it directly from a notification, rather than having to open Gmail first.

Foursquare lets users bookmark favorites

Foursquare's

new Saved Places tab is said to be a heavily-requested feature, a way of referring back to a favorite store or venue without having to search for it or be in the immediate vicinity. More details have been added to places as well, highlighting comments made by friends and whether they appear on Best Of lists.

iPad users, meanwhile, can now write tips. Although Foursquare has had a tablet interface for months, iPad users could previously only get recommendations.

Imgur iPhone app reborn

Image-hosting service Imgur has scrapped its previous iPhone app and replaced it with a new one designed to streamline the user experience. Swiping left and right will navigate through images for example, while swiping up or down votes.

Comment conversations are now threaded, and images can be sorted according to date and popularity. Throughout the app Imgur has attempted to minimize the interface; one missing element is uploads, although the developer promises The Next Web that the feature will reach mobile "very soon."
