French wireless carriers are hearing that preorders for next-generation iPhones will open on Sept. 11, two days after a rumored press event, according to claims made on Friday.
The new devices -- commonly known as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus -- will in turn ship on Sept. 18, a source told French site Mac4Ever. Apple is widely expected to reveal new iPhones at a Sept. 9 event, although Mac4Ever speculated that the 8th might also be a possibility.
The suggested preorder date would be consistent with Apple's recent iPhone launch strategy, which is to start preorders shortly after a press event and then ship the new hardware roughly a week later.
Invitations for Apple events typically go out a week prior, which could mean the media will learn about Apple's September event as soon as Aug. 31.
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus should both share upgrades like Force Touch, A9 processors, and 2 gigabytes of RAM, as well as 12-megapixel rear cameras and 5-megapixel front modules. Apple also appears to be switching to 7000-series aluminum, which should make iPhones much tougher structurally.
