Porsche has announced that its upcoming four-door sedan, the 2017 Panamera, will support Apple's CarPlay technology when the vehicle launches in the U.S. in January.
CarPlay will be controlled through a 12.3-inch touchscreen, part of a new Porsche Communication Management system, the automaker said. That system will also handle built-in Porsche features, such as proprietary voice control.
Along the same lines, the car is being fitted with the new Porsche Advanced Cockpit, which replaces many buttons and instruments with screens and touch-sensitive panels. On the Panamera, this will include two 7-inch displays within the driver's line of sight.
Notably Porsche hasn't announced any support for Android Auto, which is now almost universally supported on any car that also has CarPlay.
The base version of the car, the Panamera 4S, will start at $99,900 before any fees. A top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo will cost at least $146,900.
Being a high-end sportscar maker with a smaller model range, Porsche has relatively few vehicles with CarPlay support. So far these include the 2016 911, 2017 Macan, 2017 718 Boxster, and the 2017 718 Cayman.
