Tax changes and other factors going into effect for Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Turkey will cause price increases for select apps in Apple's App Store.
App Store price update
Apple periodically notifies developers of regional tax changes that will affect how their apps are priced. The latest updates apply to apps whose storefronts exist outside of the affected countries.
According to an email from Apple to developers, seen by AppleInsider, pricing for apps and in-app purchases, excluding auto-renewable subscriptions, will be updated for the Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Turkey storefront on July 25. Developers won't need to take any action if their base storefront is in those countries or if they manually manage price changes.
The updates to those prices will take into account the following tax changes:
- Egypt: introduction of a value-added tax (VAT) of 14%
- Tanzania: introduction of a VAT of 18% and a digital service tax of 2%
- Turkey: increase of the VAT rate from 18% to 20%
According to Apple, if the base storefront of a developer's app or in-app purchase isn't in Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, or Turkey, prices will increase for those respective storefronts. The price change excludes auto-renewable subscriptions.
Developers can check out the Pricing and Availability section of My Apps in App Store Connect to see the upcoming price changes. Consumers outside of the affected countries won't notice any change.
