Sneak Peek at Revolutionary iBook \"Kritter\" Cams

By Kasper Jade

When Apple introduced the iMac back on May 6th, 1998, they didn't just take a stride toward saving Apple; they also gave developers a new market and a new life. It appears that the introduction of the iBook will prove no different for Apple or its third party developers.

With the generous help of sources who will remain anonymous, AppleInsider has acquired an image [below]of the most stylish iBook accessories seen to date. This set of USB \"Kritter Cams\" is said to be the work of none other than iREZ Video Products.

Rumored to be available in both Blueberry and Tangerine, these tiny cams will easily clip onto the top of an iBook's display module and plug into its free USB port. Their industrial design and translucent coloring are a definite plus for those who are into the whole iBook style factor.

Furthermore, rumor has it that the new Kritter Cams will support isochronous transfer modes, which Apple has recently begun to support for both USB and FireWire as of Mac OS 8.6. Isochronous transfer is a process wherein data must be delivered within certain time constraints, in this case possibly yielding one of the highest-quality USB cameras around.

According to sources, the cams will be announced sometime in the very near future and will ship at the end of September. Suggested Retail Price is said to be $129.95. The units will be distributed through Ingram Micro, one of two major Apple product distributors, and will be available at a number of reseller locations nationwide.

This is just one of the many third party add-ons that are currently under development for Apple's iBook Consumer Portable; more information on those products will be available in the near future. One thing is certain: video conferencing is about to get a little cooler, and a lot more popular. Sometimes fashion doessell hardware.
