Amazon Prime Day 2019: best deals and what to expect on July 15 & 16

By AppleInsider Staff

Amazon Prime Day 2019 launches on July 15 and July 16, leaving everyone to speculate which daily deals will show up during the two-day mega shopping event. Based on what we've seen in years prior, we've got a pretty good idea of what you might be able to expect, including where to snag the best Apple markdowns.

It's that time of year again-- Prime Day is on the horizon, and with Prime Day comes the hope of saving money to score that new gear you've had your eye on.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

If you're not aware, Prime Day is essentially Amazon's Black-Friday-in-July shopping event. It started out as Amazon's 15th anniversary sale, but Amazon has since turned it into a yearly tradition.

When is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is scheduled to begin on July 15, and will run through July 16, providing shoppers with 48 hours of Lightning deals.

What you need

You'll need to have an Amazon Prime account to take advantage of the deals, though. If you don't have one, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to take advantage of the savings. Prime members get free two-day shipping on a lot of things offered by Amazon as well.

It's hard to know exactly what's going to show up on the discount rack on Prime Day, but there's a few safe bets we'd be willing to make based on past years.

Amazon tech

Amazon Echo Smart Speaker

Amazon has historically offered some pretty impressive deals on their line of tech products during Prime Day.

Last year, Amazon's streaming media player, the Fire stick, was the number one seller of the event. If you're looking to get a Fire Stick for the guest room TV, Prime Day is likely your best bet for a deal.

We also anticipate that shoppers might see discounts on Fire Tablets, most notably the Fire HD tablet line, including the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10.

We're also willing to bet that the Echo or Echo Plus will get a discount for the event, enabling users to get a voice assistant for less than they would normally pay.

Kitchen gadgets

Chefman TurboFry

Unsurprisingly, kitchen goods are a major seller every year on Prime Day, so make sure to keep an eye out for that kitchen gadget or small appliance you've wanted for a while.

Last year, the Instant Pot was a big hit, and we anticipate that it will likely be high on the charts again. The Instant Pot is one part slow cooker and one part pressure cooker, cutting down on the amount of appliances you need by half, and effectively doubling the sorts of recipes you can make.

We're expecting to see a couple of Air Fryers, like the Philips TurboStar Technology Airfryer, wind up on the list. Amazon has already announced that the Chefman TurboFry will be exclusively available to Prime members, making it an affordable AirFryer perfect for almost any budget.

TVs

Like its November counterpart, Prime Day usually brings some decent TV deals as well. If you have decided to add a second, third, or fourth TV to your home, it's worth it to head to Amazon to see what's available.

Currently, Amazon is running some early sales on Fire TV edition televisions, like this 1080p Toshiba Fire TV, which is 40% off at press time.

Apple deals

Deals on Apple products are also available on Prime Day

While Amazon tends to focus on discounting its own hardware during the Prime Day sale event, the e-commerce giant is already slashing prices on popular Apple devices leading up to Prime Day. On Prime Day itself, shoppers can also save on Apple-compatible accessories, such as wireless chargers, USB-C cables and iPhone cases, with flash deals available hourly in many cases.

Apple resellers have also historically followed suit with their own Prime Day sales, with savings of up to 96% off per last year's Prime Day 2018 roundup. Ebay has also been known to run a sitewide coupon on Prime Day in a bid to compete directly with Amazon.

However, many of the best Prime Day Apple discounts have been available right here at AppleInsider, with exclusive savings on everything from MacBook Pros to AirPods last year. It's worth checking back often leading up to Prime Day as we bring you the lowest prices on many popular devices.
