Billy Crudup earns Apple TV+ first award win for 'The Morning Show'

Billy Crudup has been named best supporting actor at the Critics Choice Awards for his role in "The Morning Show" on Apple TV+, winning the service its first award.

has won its first drama award as Billy Crudup has taken the best supporting actor gong at the Critics Choice Awards. His role as Cory Ellison in "The Morning Show was the only nomination for an Apple TV+ show.

He beat six other nominees for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, including Peter Dinklage for "Game of Thrones," Tim Blake Nelson for "Watchmen," and Delroy Lindo for "The Good Fight."

Of their shows, only Crudup for Apple TV+ and Lindo for CBS All Access represented streaming services. The other nominees were from NBC and cable channels HBO and Showtime. Crudup's award follows "The Morning Show" being shut out at the Golden Globes.

The Critics Choice Award is general regarded as one of the more prestigious ceremonies, and its film categories are said to be a strong predictor of how Oscar voting will go.

The series is also in contention for the forthcoming Screen Actors Guild awards on January 19. Billy Crudup is again nominated, this time for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, as us his "Morning Show" cast mate Steve Carell. Jennifer Aniston is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

"The Morning Show" completed its first 10-episode season in December 2019 and is expected to return in 2020.
