Apple TV+ has announced a new "darkly comic" anthology series based on Cecelia Ahern's book "Roar," and starring Nicole Kidman, Alison Brie, and Cynthia Erivo.
Apple TV+ Novelist Cecelia Ahern's "Roar" collection of short stories is to become what Apple TV+ describes as an "anthology series of darkly comic feminist fables." It's the first production to come from Apple's overall production deal with Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, co-creators of "Glow."
Together with Flahive and Mensch, the show is to be executive produced by Bruna Papandrea and Nicole Kidman, who previously worked together on the hit "Big Little Lies." As with that serial, Kidman is also starring in the new anthology.
The stories in "Roar" concern women overcoming adversity in many different situations, and also styles. The book uses magical realism, and Apple says that the series consists of "eight half-hour genre-bending episodes, told from a uniquely female point of view."
Across the anthology, the cast will include Alison Brie from "Community," "Mad Men," and even a 2016 Apple commercial for Siri. Also set to star are Cynthia Erivo, Merrit Wever, and more to be announced.
No details have been announced regarding production or streaming dates.
