The company on Tuesday updated its short video creation app, Clips, to version 3.1, introducing a feature that will take advantage of LiDAR support on the iPhone 12 Pro and the 2021 and 2020 iPad Pro models.
AR Spaces, as the LiDAR feature is dubbed, will allow users to "easily scan a room and see a live preview of effects bring dynamic lighting, falling objects, and immersive scenes to life."
Some of the new AR Spaces effects and filters added in Clips 3.1 include Prism, Confetti, Sparkles, and Stardust effects. The feature will be available on the rear camera for users with supported iPhone or iPad models.
Equipped with Apple's segmentation and occlusion features, the new AR Spaces feature will be able to detect people in a video and project effects in front of and behind them. Users will also be able to add animated stickers, text labels, and emoji to their AR Spaces.
As with other Clips, the AR Spaces content will be exportable in a variety of aspect ratios for easy sharing on social media.
In addition to the new AR Spaces feature, Apple on Monday also announced that Clips will receive monthly content updates. The updates will include additions to the Clips library of filters, Live Titles, text, stickers, and posters "related to seasonal events and cultural trends."
Users will also be able to switch on notifications to get alerted when new content offerings become available.
