As hardware design vice president Evans Hankey leaves Apple, sources claim that Gary Butcher will be rejoining the company after leading design at Airbnb.
While Apple has officially confirmed that its vice president of industrial design, Evans Hankey, is leaving the company, it has not commented on a possible successor.
However, according to Bloomberg, unspecified sources within Apple have since added that Gary Butcher is returning to the company. Butcher has been vice president of design at Airbnb since June 2021, but spent the previous almost 16 years working for Apple.
Butcher's time at Apple comprised around 8 years as Creative Director - Video, and then from 2013 to 2021, Designer. He reportedly worked within Alan Dye's software division, where he was a top designer.
Prior to joining Apple the first time, Butcher was a designer for firms including Liquid TV and Moving Brands. In 1995, he received a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Media and Production Design from the London College of Printing & Distributive Trades.
The same unspecified sources say that Alan Dye is remaining with Apple.
