Cook was one of the few US CEOs to attend the revived China Development Forum, and then later met with the Chinese Commerce Minister. Just as with his previous tours of Japan, and also Europe, Cook has added developer visits to his itinerary.
According to the South China Morning Post, that includes stopping at the Shanghai headquarters of miHoYo, the developer of "Genshin Impact." In 2021, that game won the Apple Design Awards in the "Visual and Graphics" category.
"Fun meeting with the creators behind award-winning iPhone and iPad games like Genshin Impact," wrote Cook in a post on Chinese microblogging service Weibo, as seen by the publication. "Thanks to the phenomenal team at miHoYo for showing me how you create immersive fantasy worlds for everyone to enjoy on the App Store."
Cook usually posts from his tours on Twitter, but this message, and a selfie image, were exclusive to Weibo. Tim Cook reportedly has 1.54 million followers on the service, and his post -- written in both English and Chinese -- gained 1,200 comments in its first hours.
For their part, staff at miHoYo responded on the service with thanks for Apple's "continued recognition and support."
"We will continue to work hard to create immersive experiences for players around the world," continued the developer.
Cook also visited Shanghai developers enrolled on Apple's long-running Design and Development Accelerator program.
