In an unusual move, Apple's Beats by Dre subsidiary has announced an update to its PowerBeats Pro line, at least months before launch.
The original PowerBeats Pro
The original Powerbeats Pro came out in 2019, and were strong, luxury headphones, if with some flaws. Since then, Beats has occasionally collaborated with designers to release variations on that original, but now it has directly said that an entirely new edition is coming.
The original posting on Instagram
The announcement came in a video posted to Instagram. The 10-second video has a pulsing heartbeat soundtrack over slow-motion footage of baseball star Shohei Ohtani wearing the new devices.
All the ad then says is "PowerBeats Pro 2," and then "Coming 2025." It appears that the PowerBeats Pro 2 will be offered in white.
Otherwise, the only further information is an FCC notice saying that the device has yet to be approved, but that's just a legal requirement.
There's certainly no indication of when in 2025 the device will launch. So what's most likely to happen next is that sports stars will begin to be seen wearing them, a few weeks ahead of release, as always happens with Beats.
