Analyst repeats rumors on Apple Silicon, foldables, & iPhone 17 components

Jeff Pu has shared a report repeating several rumors, including Ming-Chi Kuo's earlier report suggesting all iPhone 17 models would get Apple's custom Wi-Fi chips.

Apple debuted the C1 modem with the iPhone 16e in February 2025. Rumors suggest the C1 will be limited to Apple's iPhone 17 Slim, but a new Wi-Fi chip that supports Wi-Fi 7 will be used in all new models.

The shift to in-house chips has been rumored by Ming-Chi Kuo since at least October 2024, but he's been more confident about it in more recent reports. According to a research note seen by MacRumors, analyst Jeff Pu has now repeated that rumor.

Pu believes the Wi-Fi 7 chip design was finalized in the first half of 2024, but oddly that's the same time frame Kuo suggested Apple had paused development of the chip. Regardless, they seem to agree that it is ready for the fall 2025 iPhone lineup.

The analyst also shared other repeat information, like an 18.8-inch foldable MacBook that has been rumored before, plus a 7.8-inch iPhone foldable that was also shared by Kuo. M5 is expected to move to TSMC's N3P, which was rumored by Kuo and would also apply to the A19 chips for iPhone 18, mentioned by Pu in the report.

The A20 chip destined for iPhone 19 was also mentioned, stating it would be a 2nm process -- which, you guessed it, has also been rumored. He also shared that the iPhone 18 Pro would get the C2 modem.

The final repeat rumor has to do with the iPhone 17 selfie camera. Pu reports it will be 24 megapixels, which he's said before, which was rumored by Ming-Chi Kuo before that.

These rumors seems likely given these leakers history aside from Pu's, so we're rating this repeat rumor report as likely too. Apple will reveal the iPhone 17 lineup in September.
