Twitter on Wednesday announced two new additions to its ubiquitous microblogging platform, including a photo tagging feature and a loosening of the per-tweet picture cap.
A post to Twitter's official blog notes users can now tag up to ten people in a single photo attached to a tweet without affecting the total 140-character text count.
By default, users will receive a notification when they are tagged in a photo, though alerts can be customized in app settings. Privacy options can also be adjusted in settings, including restrictions on who can tag you. Competing social platforms Facebook and Instagram have included similar photo tagging features for years.
Perhaps more useful for many users is the ability to tack on up to four photos in a single tweet. When attaching multiple photos, the app automatically arranges them into a grid-type collage that can be viewed in full quality using tap-and-swipe gestures.
According to Twitter, the two new features will be rolling out on its iPhone apptoday, with support from Android and Twitter.com "coming soon." Multi-picture viewing is enabled on all platforms including embedded tweets.
