Tidal adds Apple Watch offline playback for subscribers

By William Gallagher

Tidal users are now able to download music directly to their Apple Watch, instead of requiring a streaming connection.

Tidal on Apple Watch now supports offline listening

Following Tidal's purchase by SquareSpace, and also Spotify's release of offline playback, Tidal has now also updated to allow phone-free use for subscribers.

"Tidal is now available on Apple Watch," says the app's entry in the iOS App Store. "You can... stream music and control playback of TIDAL directly on your Apple Watch, independent of your iPhone."

"[Also download] all your favorite playlists and listen offline from anywhere without internet connectivity," it continues.

This brings Tidal into feature parity with Spotify, but also with Apple Music, which has had offline listening for several years.

The app's App Store entry does not specify minimum Apple Watch requirements -- only that iOS 13.0 later is needed. However, French site Watch Generation reports that watchOS 7.2 is required.
