"City on Fire" is based on the novel by Garth Risk Hallberg, and followed how the murder of an NYU student led to the discovery of a city-wide web of secrets.
According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has elected to not order a second season continuation of the story. It follows Apple's recent decision to also cancel the Uma Thurman thriller, "Suspicion."
However, while Deadline says that "City on Fire" was planned as a series, rather than a one-off, its first season did complete the dramatisation of Hallberg's book. An expected second run would have been an entirely new story, which means that Apple has effectively turned "City on Fire" into a limited eight-episode serial.
"City on Fire" was dramatised by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who together wrote, showran and executive produced the series. It starred Wyatt Oleff and Chase Sui Wonders.
