Apple TV+ cancels Uma Thurman thriller 'Suspicion'

Uma Thurman plays a prominent businesswoman whose son is kidnapped in action thriller "Suspicion."

Following a one-season run in 2022, industry sources say Apple TV+ has decided not to recommission "Suspicion."

It's not a surprise that "Suspicion" has been cancelled given that it ending airing its eight-episode first season 17 months ago in March 2022. But the that initial season was first announced in 2020, and the production was halted, then restarted in the next year.

Nonetheless, Apple will have been expecting to make more than one run since the series it commissioned was a direct adaptation of the more successful Isreali series, "False Flag." That show ran for three seasons, though they were spread out in 2015, 2018, and 2019.

Apple has not confirmed the cancellation, but industry publication Deadline announced it, and said the original production company has recently re-sold rights to the show. That sale at the MIP TV conference in Cannes means the first season will be shown on at least one linear broadcaster's channel.

Deadline also says that "Suspicion" was seen as one of the three highest-profile Apple series to come out of the firm's UK offices. The other two are "Bad Sisters," and "Slow Horses," both of which have been more critically acclaimed.

While most Apple TV+ productions are current shut down because of the US actors and Writers' Guild of America strikes, both of these shows have been able to continue.

Reportedly, "Slow Horses" rearranged its production schedule to film all scenes with Screen Actors Guild member Gary Oldman before the strike. "Bad Sisters" is being filmed under the rules of the UK actors union Equity, and is written by an Irish writer.

Apple has not announced when either "Bad Sisters" or "Slow Horses" will return, but the latter is confirmed to have at least two more seasons to run.

I didn't know their series even existed.  I do like Uma Thurman, but knowing the series already ended, do I want to get invested in watching this?

It was insanely stupid, but entertaining. If you’re desperate to watch something, then yes go for it. But if your tv viewing plate is full, zero need to add this to it.

If I remember correctly, over the course of 8 episodes Uma Thurman had approximately 5 minutes of total screen time. So for this show to be labeled as an Uma “thriller” was disingenuous on Apple’s part from the very beginning. Though, that may not have mattered much had the show been just a little better.
