Apple TV+ has chosen not to renew its award winning comedy "Schmigadoon!," and is ending the series after just two seasons.
Apple cancels 'Schmigadoon' after second season
Musical comedy "Schmigadoon!" debuted on Apple TV+ in. The series was well liked, and even earned Apple a Creative Arts Emmy and was named as one of AFI's Television Programs of the Year in 2021.
However, the series accolades weren't enough to cinch a third season, it seems. "Schmigadoon!" series creator Cinco Paul shared the news on Instagram, spotted by Deadline.
"I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with Season 3 of Schmigadoon!", the post reads. "The season is written (including 25 new songs) but we unfortunately won't be making it. Such is life."
He then thanked the cast, crew, writers, and producers for the series' two seasons, and said he felt as though it wasn't truly the end for "Schmigadoon!"
"Schmigadoon!" follows a couple as they embark on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship. Along their way, they discover a magical town in which everyone lives in a studio musical from the 1940s. Strong's and Key's characters then find that they can't leave the town until they find "true love."
Season one focused on classic musical theater staple "Brigadoon." Season two moved the show to "Chicago" in name, and in song.
In October, Apple TV+ cancelled both comedy murder-mystery "The Afterparty" and the talk series "The Problem with Jon Stewart" after two seasons.
In December, Apple TV+ opted not to renew another musical comedy, "Central Park", as well as its sports drama "Swagger."
