In an unexpected Friday release, Apple has rolled out the sixth developer build of visionOS 2.1 for testing, days after the last build.
Apple Vision Pro
Apple has already offered a wave of beta builds of its operating system updates for its developers to test earlier in the week. However, just four days after the fifth build was issued, Apple has brought out a sixth of visionOS 2.1 to try out.
The new build is an unexpected seeding by Apple, as it typically releases only one generation of betas per week. Two in one week is a rarity, and usually signifies a bug fix or a change that is important enough that Apple wanted tested straight away.
The build from October 14 was build number 22N5573a, while the new sixth build is 22N5573b.
So far, the betas of visionOS 2.1 haven't thrown up any major new features or massive surprises. They are still likely to include feature tweaks and performance improvements, as well as bug fixes, as is typical of Apple's updates.
Owners of the Apple Vision Pro enrolled into the developer beta program can install the beta directly onto their headset.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto "mission-critical" or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.
