Apple Pay support has officially arrived in the country of Bahrain with support from at least three of the major banks in the region.
Credit: Apple The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB), the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK), and ila Digital Bank have all announced support for the Apple digital payment platform in Bahrain, which is located in the Persian Gulf.
According to the banks, customers in Bahrain will be able to take advantage of "faster, easier, and safer payments" while enjoying all of the benefits of their physical cards. While ila Bank and NBB will support their primary cards, BKK said in an Instagram post that initial support will only extend to its debit cards.
As of writing, Apple's feature availability webpage has not yet been updated to reflect the addition of support.
The rollout of Apple Pay in Bahrain marks the fifth country in the Middle East and North Africa region to get the Apple contactless payment platform. Back in August, Apple Pay officially landed in the country of Qatar. Previously, the feature was available in Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates.
Apple Pay could also soon debut in several Central American countries, as well as Chile.
