Ahern's short story collection features tales of women overcoming adversity, and eight of the tales are featured in the forthcoming Apple TV+ series. Nicole Kidman, Alison Brie, and Betty Gilpin among the stars playing lead roles in each edition.

"'Roar' offers an insightful, poignant and sometimes hilarious portrait of what it means to be a woman today," said Apple in a press release. "Featuring a unique blend of magical realism, familiar domestic and professional scenarios, and futuristic worlds, these eight stories mirror the dilemmas of ordinary women in accessible yet surprising ways."

Writers include series creators and showrunners Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive, together previously best known for "Nurse Jackie." The "Roar" show is the first commission from Apple TV+ following its overall development deal with Mensch and Flahive.

Unusually for Apple TV+, the entire eight-part season is to stream from the same day, Friday, April 15, 2022.
