Google's Pixel 6a drops headphone jack, despite mocking Apple over it

Google has followed up its mockery over Apple removing the headphone jack from the iPhone, by removing the headphone jack from the new Pixel 6a.

First they laugh at you, then they copy. In August 2021, Google produced a pastiche of Apple's Jony Ive design videos, entirely to ridicule how the iPhone no longer had a headphone jack.

Now as part of its 2022 Google I/O launches, the company has announced its Pixel 6a phone. It Google's new midrange phone and has an improved processor, under-display fingerprint sensor — but no headphone jack.

"Calling this perfectly-symmetrical, technological marvel, a 'headphone jack' may feel like an understatement...," said Google's satirical video about the port on the Pixel 5a, "but technically, that's what it's called, so... fair enough."

It's not known whether Google had already planned to remove the jack when the video was released, or therefore whether its marketing department talks to engineering. Smartphone designs from inception to production generally take between 12 and 16 months.

To Google's credit, the satire video can still be viewed online. That compares to Samsung, which similarly mocked Apple but then took down its ad before it copied the iPhone.

Google what shit marketing. Now they are just making fun of themselves. Now they just look like fools who take your data instead of a company that just takes your data and sells it. Google it’s so simple where privacy and security and not our concern.

Samsung is way worse. iKnockoff fans always poking fun at Apple for
bringing the future then we hear silence when their knockoff iPads/iPhones do the same.

It was obviously targeted to non-Apple users, which lapped it up. Similarly, anything anti-google, anti-microsoft, or anti-samsung, is lapped up by Apple fans.

Only in tech blogs. The rest of the world doesn’t give a damn. When I was a teenager in the 60s it was the gear heads fighting over Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge, who had the best supercharger, the best Holley six-pack carburetor, the best 4 speed transmission, etc. You know, they were spec monkeys just like the tech monkeys of today.
