On the AppleInsider Podcast, production begins on the mini-LED 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, "iPhone 13" could feature portrait video mode, and we discuss the privacy implications of CSAM detection.
According to supply chain sources, production of Apple's new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro has begun. With an expected Fall launch, these high-end Macs will support updated Apple Silicon chips and mini-LED screens like the display found on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
In addition to new Macs, the next iPhone will launch in the coming months and a new report from Bloomberg states that the lineup will feature significant upgrades to the camera system. Rumored features include a portrait mode for video, creating an artificial depth-of-field like the current still photo Portrait mode. Apple may also bring its high quality video codec, ProRes to the "iPhone 13".
Apple has now partnered with Affirm in Canada to offer installment plans on their devices. In the US, users are able to pay over time using Apple Card, but buyers in other countries still don't have access to the Goldman Sachs credit card.
After covering updates to popular apps 1Password and Things 3, our hosts discuss the overall reception of Apple's Child Safety initiative. While there is still some confusion in the CSAM detection technology, users are concerned it could be abused in the future. We look at the immediate ramifications of the new CSAM initiative and clarify what it means for privacy in the future.
