Last year when Steve Jobs unveiled Apple's iMac personal computer, no one would have thought that a year later it would be graphite grey that would be dominating the enclosures of Apple's entire product matrix. Maybe Apple is listening to their customers or maybe Steve himself has mistaken a recent MacMall or MacWarehouse catalog for his holiday Toys 'R' Us circular, too.
Apple originally experimented with a graphite iBook earlier this spring while prepping the first rev of the product. A number of sources overseas actually still retain their graphite iBook prototypes, according to reports submitted to AppleInsider. And even Apple's upcoming PowerBook G3 revision, code-named Pismo, has been known to feature graphite highlights.
Well, office-folk who've craved an iBook for some time, but would not feel comfortable walking into the office with a bright blue or orange laptop in their hands, may find some comfort in knowing that a graphite version of the world's top-selling laptop is rumored to be in the works, and due out soon.
The new unit is also rumored to boast a full-featured DVD Drive capable of DVD-Video playback. The implementation of DVD into the current iBook hardware is trivial, for the support was already built into the first revision of the iBook; however, it was hidden from the specs list and from the consumer.
Additional information on the Graphite DV iBook will be published as we near Macworld San Francisco next week.
