Apple issues second betas of iOS 11.1, High Sierra 10.13.1, tvOS 11.1, and watchOS 4.1 [u]

Last updated

Nearly two weeks after the last beta releases Apple on Monday provided developers with updated test versions of its next significant software releases for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, all of which are set to get point-one updates in the near future.

The new software and accompanying build numbers are as follows:

  • macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 beta 17B35a
  • watchOS 4.1 beta 15R5835d
  • iOS 11.1 beta 15B5078e
  • tvOS 11.1 beta 15J5571d

It is still not known what the updates include beyond new emoji that Apple previously announced was coming to this iOS beta.

Update: iOS 11.1 beta 2 marks the return of the 3D Touch multitasking app switcher, while watchOS 4.1 beta 2 introduces support for streaming radio stations, including Beats1, over LTE.

Update 2: Apple has since released the latest beta software to public testers.

A number of features were absent from the public release of iOS 11, including AirPlay 2 and Apple Pay Cash.

Apple's iOS 11.1 is likely to arrive around the time that the iPhone X, ships to customers on Nov. 3.

iOS 11 was quickly patched with two minor releases, fixing glaring bugs. It is not clear at this point if the bug fixes introduced in 11.0.1 and 11.0.2 have been rolled into the latest iOS 11.1 beta — but it seems likely.

Apple Music streaming over LTE was added in the first beta of watchOS 4.1. An update for wi-fi and LTE connectivity handoff issues in the Series 3 Apple Watch was rolled out on Wednesday.

I mostly just want it to un-nuke battery life and get rid of all the frame drops. I won't say it's as bad as Gingerbread era Android on the framerate drops, but I will say it's rather distracting and I'm not sure Apple has the lead here anymore, from what little I've seen of the Pixel.
