Apple TV+ , and Apple's advertising, have together received 35 nominations for the 73rd annual Emmy Awards, almost doubling its first-year total in 2020.
Hit Apple TV+ comedy "Ted Lasso" has been nominated for 20 awards across 11 categories at the Emmys. Announced live on Tuesday, the awards also gave nominations to Apple's "Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry" documentary, and to its advertising.
"Ted Lasso" nominations include ones for star Jason Sudeikis, plus two for Outstanding Supporting Actress for Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham. Outstanding Supporting Actor saw the show's Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nathan Shelley, and Jeremy Swift all nominated.
The series writing and direction were also nominated, as was its casting, main title music, video editing, sound mixing and sound editing.
"Ted Lasso" is also a contender for the overall Best Comedy, where it will compete with "Black-ish," "Emily in Paris", "The Kominsky Method," "pen15," "Cobra Kai," and "The Flight Attendant."
Away from that comedy, "Mythic Quest" earned nominations for sound editing, as well as for narrator Anthony Hopkins. "Central Park" received nods for voice-over performances from Stanley Tucci and Tituss Burgess.
Then Apple TV+ music programming also received nominations, with Bruce Springsteen's "Letter to You" being nominated for its sound mixing. "Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry," received three nominations across sound and film editing.
Apple TV+ also scored nominations for its cinematography in "Servant," and short form comedy with "Carpool Karaoke: The Series." The documentary "Boys State" received a nomination for outstanding directing, as well as one for Outstanding Documentary.
An Outstanding Narrator nomination for David Attenborough's performance in "The Year Earth Changed" and a makeup nod for "Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special" round out Apple's Emmy prospects.
Alongside the Apple TV+ nominations, the company also received three for its advertising. "AirPods Pro - Jump," "It Already Does It - Apple Watch Series 6," and "You Love Me - Beats by Dre," are all nominated for Outstanding Commercial.
The total of 35 nominations almost doubles the 18Apple TV+ received in 2020 for its first year of airing within the Emmy eligibility period. Then it was "The Morning Show" that received most nominations, but that series's second season did not air in time to be considered for the 2021 awards.
