'Assassin's Creed Shadows' launches on Apple Silicon Macs November 15

Last updated

Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed Shadows" will be the first major AAA title to launch simultaneously on Macs with Apple Silicon through the Mac App Store.

Ubisoft's upcoming release of Assassin's Creed Shadows on November 15th marks a significant milestone in the Mac gaming industry. Unlike previous AAA titles that often arrived on macOS long after their initial release, Assassin's Creed Shadows will be available on launch day.

Set for release on November 15th, the game features two main protagonists: a Shinobi assassin and a legendary samurai. The dual-character approach provides diverse gameplay mechanics and storylines, allowing players to switch between stealth and combat-oriented missions.

The narrative unfolds across various Japanese landscapes, immersing players in a richly detailed world inspired by historical events and folklore. Both characters have distinct skill sets and abilities, which can be upgraded through progression, offering a tailored experience depending on the player's preferred playstyle.

Players can use stealth tactics typical of a shinobi or engage in direct combat using the samurai's arsenal of weapons. The game features an open-world environment, encouraging exploration and discovery.

The game's graphics and sound design are enhanced by the capabilities of Apple Silicon, ensuring a visually stunning and immersive experience. Releasing Assassin's Creed Shadows on launch day for Macs with Apple Silicon, Ubisoft, and Apple demonstrates the potential of macOS as a viable gaming platform.

The simultaneous release highlights the capabilities of Apple's M-series chips in handling high-end gaming experiences, further solidifying the company's presence in the gaming industry.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is exclusive to current-generation platforms like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Luna, notably skipping older consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Pre-order the game on the Mac App Store today for $69.99.

I’ve been a fan of the Assassins Creed series from the first game, and this looks good, but I’m torn. Part of me wants to buy the Mac version, to support gaming on Mac and get developers to keep releasing good titles, an also because I sometimes miss my earliest gaming experiences, when I played games on my Mac in the mid 90’s. But another part of me knows the experience is much better on the Xbox, with a large OLED display and surround sound, sitting comfortably in the couch. That part will probably win.
But I love that AAA titles are starting to come to Apple devices, I hope it’s a trend that continues.
