While initially launched exclusively for the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple plans to expand Visual Intelligence to the iPhone 15 Pro.

Visual Intelligence a handy feature that allows you to point your camera at an object in the real world to learn more about it. It's essentially Apple's answer to Google Lens.

Previously, if you wanted to use Visual Intelligence, you'd have to be someone who purchased a device in either the iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro lineup. However, Apple has confirmed to Daring Fireball that the feature will roll out to the iPhone 15 Pro in a future update.

Apple didn't provide which future update, though Daring Fireball speculates it will be iOS 18.4. That would mean Visual Intelligence could come to the iPhone 15 Pro as early as April.

Visual Intelligence is one of the most powerful Apple Intelligence features currently available. Giving users a way to quickly point their iPhone camera at something in front of them and learn about it could prove to be very useful in any number of cases.

For example, if you're walking around the city and see an interesting restaurant you haven't been to, pointing your iPhone at it can provide you with important information.

This could include viewing the hours of operation, menu, or website and phone number of the restaurant. Depending on the restaurant's capabilities, you may even be able to make a reservation or place an order for delivery.

If you find yourself in a park and you see an unfamiliar plant, Visual Intelligence can help you identify it. It is worth noting that Apple's Visual Lookup feature, introduced in iOS 15, does something similar, though Visual Intelligence is much more streamlined.

There are other things that Visual Intelligence is capable of, which AppleInsider has already explored.

I assume this will be extended to the Pro Max as well?

I hope so. Last year Air Pods Pro 2 had a firmware update to allow hearing aid functionality. Now Visual Intelligence features installed via software update on iPhone 15 pro models. Nice to see features added to hardware via updates vs having to purchase/upgrade to a newer device to get a certain feature.
