Apple Maps has a new feature in iOS 18 that helps people search for locations, businesses, and points of interest within a specific area on the map. But it's a little tricky to find.
Apple Maps is a staple for iOS users, offering reliable navigation and location services. Over the years, the company has continually updated the app to include new features and improvements that cater to user needs.
The latest update, iOS 18, brings several exciting enhancements, with "Search Here" as a significant improvement. The feature allows users to refine their searches to specific areas on the map, providing more relevant and precise results.
The "Search Here" function is a convenient solution to a common issue where searches yield results from a broad and often irrelevant geographic area. By allowing users to specify a search region, Apple Maps ensures that the results are confined to the selected area, making it easier to find what you're looking for.
Whether you're planning a trip, looking for a nearby restaurant, or exploring new places in your city, 'Search Here' empowers you to tailor your search experience to your needs, making it more efficient and effective.
How to use 'Search Here' in Apple Maps
To make the most of the "Search Here" feature, adjust the map area by zooming in for more precise searches or zooming out for broader results. Combine this with additional filters available in Apple Maps, such as 'Open Now' or specific categories, to narrow your search further.
It's all designed to make your search experience as easy and effective as possible. Additionally, save locations by bookmarking or adding frequently visited places to your favorites for quick access later.
- Launch the Apple Maps app from your home screen.
- Type what you are looking for, such as "coffee shops" or "gas stations," into the search bar.
- Navigate the map by scrolling to the area you want to search.
- When you have the desired area on your screen, the Search Here button will appear. Tap it to refine your search to that specific area.
As you scroll around the map, your search term will automatically populate the area if what you're looking for is available.
The "Search Here" function proves invaluable in several situations. Traveling to a new city allows you to identify nearby attractions, eateries, or accommodations within a chosen neighborhood.
"Search Here" helps you find venues and amenities specific to your desired location during event or meeting planning, avoiding irrelevant distant results. For those who enjoy exploring their city, "Search Here" makes discovering hidden gems close to your current location easier.

Apple Maps is available in browser now too. Finally.
But iOS 17 already automatically does this without needing a button. Just pan or zoom the map and it updates.
