Hoping to attract some people who might otherwise buy Apple's updated MacBook Pro, Microsoft is offering up to $650 for people willing to trade in an existing MacBook towards a Surface Book or Surface Pro 4.
The company is accepting a range of MacBook models, with different trade-in values for each. Once a rough value is determined, people must send their MacBook and its accessories to Microsoft, after which they'll receive an email with a discount code for online checkout.
On Wednesday Microsoft launched the Surface Book i7, said to have twice the graphics performance of other Surface Book models, and three times the performance of last year's 13-inch MacBook Pro. The Surface Pro 4 dates back to Oct. 2015.
Excluded from the offer is the Surface Studio, a 28-inch all-in-one desktop that tilts flat. The Surface Pro 4 normally starts at $899, while Surface Books cost at least $1,499. The Surface Book i7, though, is $2,399.
The new MacBook Pro, starting at $1,799, replaces function keys with a multitouch Touch Bar, which also has an embedded Touch ID fingerprint sensor. All Surface devices feature a full multitouch display.

Nothing but advertising. Who would ship in their laptop and have to wait for MS to send them a coupon code?
Microsoft has one big problem with this bribe and that is Windows 10.
With the forced updates, TIFKAM/Metro/Modern Interface(sic), all that data slurping and Nanny Microsoft getting in the way and telling you 'sorry Dave I can't let you do that' I'd have to be paid loadsamoney to actually use it for real.
I'm not just saying this out of spite. I gave W10 almost 6 months of use and I've been using computers for 40+ years. They've even ruined the Server OS.
Apple has lost the plot with this so called upgrade but MS has gone totally do-lally with their software IMHO.
I'm going to build a hackintosh rather than buy a new MBP. My 2015 MBP will do the job until it falls to bits or I pop my clogs.
Just my 2p worth and that is not a lot.
Just walk away.
Lame. Was offered $260 trade in value for my MBP which I know I could sell on eBay for at least $400.
What a great deal! Oh, wait, Microsoft?
