Apple executive Cynthia Hogan to help vet Biden's VP pick

Cynthia Hogan, Apple's vice president for public policy and government affairs, is part of a four-person committee tasked with vetting potential running mates for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

Hogan joins former U.S. Senator Chris Dodd, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt (D-DE) and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti in the Biden campaign's selection process, reports The Wall Street Journal.

As noted by TechCrunch, Hogan is a longtime D.C. insider who transitioned to the private sector less than four years ago.

"Selecting a vice presidential candidate is one of the most important decisions in a presidential campaign and no one knows this more than Joe Biden," said Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon. "These four co-chairs reflect the strength and diversity of our party, and will provide tremendous insight and expertise to what will be a rigorous selection and vetting process."

Hogan was hired by Apple in April 2016 to lead the company's D.C. office, presumably spearheading lobbying initiatives. She is a report to Apple environment and policy chief Lisa Jackson.

"Cynthia's intellect and judgment have consistently distinguished her as a uniquely talented professional and we're lucky to have her join the team at Apple," Jackson said in 2016.

Prior to her work at Apple, Hogan served as an aide to Biden, then a senator, in 1993 and eventually moved up the ladder to Staff Director of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Following a brief interlude, she linked back up with Biden during his stint as Vice President to Barack Obama, where she served in an advisory role.
