After rolling out AirPlayand HomeKit in 2019, Sony today announced that the Apple TV app is available on "select" smart televisions, with more compatible models coming soon.
Once the update is applied, the Apple TV app can be used for everything it can be used for on other platforms. It can be used to subscribe to and watch Apple TV+, access their iTunes libraries, and add additional content providers via Apple TV Channels.
Through Family Sharing, up to six family members can share subscriptions to Apple TV channels using their personal Apple ID and password.
"We take great pride in the superb picture and sound quality of our innovative TVs," noted Mike Fasulo, president and chief operating officer, Sony Electronics North America. "Now with the Apple TV app, we are making great entertainment even more enjoyable, and easier for customers to access."
The Apple TV app will begin rolling out on Wednesday in the US on Sony's X900H series through a software update. The Apple TV app will launch on select 2018 models and what the company calls "most" 2019 and 2020 models by the end of 2020.

Top of the line models only...
I gave up on Sony providing anything other than a screen (with speakers) years ago and switched to Apple TVs for the "smarts". First the HD and then the 4K. I get a consistent user interface and don't have to worry about Sony dropping support and being left with a not-so-smart TV.
Now... When is Apple going to release the 6th generation Apple TV?
