Buyers of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro will now be able to use two eSIMs in a single iPhone in all markets, carrier support depending.
According to the official iPhone 13 spec sheet, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro will be the first of Apple's smartphones to support dual eSIMS.
Apple added eSIM support in 2018, launching with both the iPhone XS and the iPhone XR. This allowed users to utilize two SIMs — one physical and the other digital.
However, the iPhone 13 lineup now boasts dual eSIM support. As a result, users will no longer need a physical SIM card if they wish to use two different numbers on the same iPhone — provided their carrier supports it.
Apple also points out that the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini are incompatible with existing micro-SIM cards. Therefore, users will need to use a nano-SIM card if they plan on utilizing a physical SIM.
The iPhone 13 was announced on Tuesday at Apple's "California Streaming" event. The new lineup includes the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple will open preorders on Friday, September 17, with orders shipping out on September 24.

Just to clarify: does this mean the user can have up to 3 numbers on iPhone 13 - one through a physical SIM plus two eSIMs?

As have all iPhones for the past, what, five years?
Umm, when was the last time that micro sims were supported? Hasn’t it been a while now?
I don’t understand the need for this paragraph.
