Apple joins group working to increase security for small, medium businesses

Apple has joined the Cyber Readiness Institute as a co-chair of the organization, which is focused on helping small- and medium-sized businesses become more secure.

As co-chair of the group, Apple will share best practices and experiences that help inform the creation of cybersecurity resources and tools for small and medium businesses.

In addition, Apple will support the institute's content development platform and will work one programs that support small and medium businesses in Apple's global supply chain.

"Apple's commitment to raising the bar for cybersecurity across businesses of all sizes, as well as its global reach, will help CRI advance its content and scale its mission," said Christopher G. Caine, a co-founding member of CRI. "We look forward to collaborating with Apple on developing innovative programs to improve the security of global supply chains by focusing on practical steps SMBs can take to be more cyber ready."

Other members of CRI include MasterCard, Microsoft, GM, ExxonMobil, and The Center for Global Enterprise. CRI also has a "Champion Network" that includes around 90 organizations that represent more than two million small and medium businesses.

The organization has strategic partnerships with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and United Nations Institute for Training and Research, among others. It was also recently invited to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives about small business cybersecurity practices.
